πΏ Carrot Seed Sowing Guide
Soil requirement: Loose, well-drained sandy loam soil with no stones or clumps. Avoid clay-heavy soils (causes misshaped carrots).
Soil preparation: Till the soil deeply (about 1β1.5 feet), add compost/vermicompost for fertility.
Sowing season: Best in cool season β September to February in India.
Seed rate: Around 500β600 g per acre.
Sowing method:
Make shallow furrows about 1β1.5 cm deep.
Sow seeds thinly in rows spaced 30 cm apart.
Cover lightly with soil and press gently.
Watering: Light and frequent watering until seeds germinate (takes 7β14 days). Avoid waterlogging.
Thinning: Once seedlings are 3β4 cm tall, thin them to 5β8 cm apart for proper root growth.
Harvesting: Ready in 90β120 days depending on variety.
