πΏ Lotus Seed Sowing Guide
Seed preparation:
Lotus seeds have a hard black shell.
Scratch/sandpaper one side (opposite the dimple) until the cream-colored inside is visible β this helps water enter and germination start.
Soak in clean water at room temperature (change water daily). Seeds usually swell and sprout in 5β7 days.
Container/soil:
Use a wide container without drainage holes (minimum 30β40 cm wide).
Add 5β8 cm layer of clay soil/mud at the bottom (avoid sandy soil).
Fill with water to about 10β15 cm above the soil.
Transplanting:
Once sprouts have 10β15 cm leaves and roots, carefully transfer them into the soil layer.
Place rhizomes gently into the mud and cover lightly.
Water management:
Maintain clean water (not chlorinated) and keep water depth 15β20 cm initially, then increase as plants grow.
Place in full sunlight (6β8 hrs/day).
Flowering/harvest:
Lotus plants start flowering in 4β6 months depending on care.
Seeds mature in 2β3 months after flowering.
