🌿 Sunflower Seed Sowing Guide
Soil requirement: Well-drained loamy soil, rich in organic matter. Avoid heavy clay and waterlogging.
Soil preparation: Plough 2–3 times, add compost/FYM (8–10 tons per acre).
Sowing season:
Kharif: June–July (monsoon)
Rabi: October–November
Summer: January–February (with irrigation)
Seed rate: 2–3 kg per acre (depending on variety).
Sowing method:
Direct sowing in pits/lines.
Row spacing: 60 cm
Plant spacing: 30 cm
Depth: 2–3 cm
Germination: 7–10 days.
Irrigation: First watering after sowing, then at critical stages – flowering & seed filling. Avoid overwatering.
Sunlight: Needs full sun (6–8 hrs/day).
Harvesting: Ready in 80–120 days (variety-based). Seeds are harvested when the back of the flower head turns yellow-brown and seeds are firm.
