1. Soil Preparation

Loose, well-drained sandy loam soil is best.

pH: 6.0 – 7.5.

Enrich soil with compost or well-rotted manure before sowing.

2. Seed Sowing

Time: Best in cooler months (Sept–Feb in most parts of India).

Spacing: Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep. Keep 8–10 cm spacing between plants and 25–30 cm between rows.

Seed rate: About 5–6 kg per acre.

3. Watering

Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.

Light irrigation after sowing helps germination (which takes 5–8 days).

4. Care

Thin seedlings when they are 5–7 cm tall to maintain spacing.

Regular weeding is necessary.

Mulching helps conserve moisture.

5. Harvest

Ready in 55–70 days depending on variety.

Harvest when roots are about the size of a tennis ball for best taste.
